comments on Nobel literature prize shortlist

in the Guardian: " Well it's not going to be Roth or Murakami - usually the pattern is: a name I recognise but have not read wins one year, followed by two years of people I've never heard of. Going on that basis, my money's on Peter Handke.." -> " You have never heard of Handke? What are you, an alien?" " Haruki Murakami to Nobel Prize is like Leo Di Caprio to Oscar. Always seen as forerunner every year but we know he won't win."

how some arguments go wrong

"Contextualising reproductive rights challenges: the Vietnam situation" - Women's Studies Forum, Vol.25, No.4, pp 443-453, 2002

by Heather Xiaoquan Zang and Catherine Locke p.450: "Mainstream information, education and communication campaigns, which are intended to disseminate information and knowledge of family planning and reproductive health, target couple and married women in their child bearing age, resulting the exclusion of those who fall outside such categories, including widowed or unmarried women and adolescent girls."

about Film art

when you talk about Film art, don't look for its meaning(s), but firstly how directors/artists visualizing things. just found someting very interesting to share: " Trần Thị Kim Trang – Epilogue: The Palpable Invisibility of Life (tạm dịch: “Đoạn kết: Tồn tại vô hình của cuộc sống”) của nữ làm phim người Mỹ gốc Việt Trần Thị Kim Trang.

"How to read a film: Movies, Media and Beyond" - James Monaco

Chapter 5: Film theory - Form and Function p. 470: Semiotics in Film theory "We now might want to add a fifth stage - especially in England and United States: the academic establishment of semiotics. Since the last seventies semiotics, along with its succesor critical systems, has become a useful tool for academicians interested more in publishing before they persish than in increasing our inderstanding of film theory. Because it is inherently, defiantly abstruse, semiotics is especially dangerous in this regard. In the hands of stylists like Metz, Eco (who later moved on to write popular novels), or Roland Barthes (whose books of essays were their own ends), the tools of semiotics can produce attractive and enlightening discursions. But lesser acolytes can get away with a lot here. Anyone intending to read semiotics should be forewarned: just because you can't understand it doesn't it means anything."
